Motivation
Intrinsic vs Extrinsic
Intrinsic motivation comes from within the student. They are internally motivated by the drive they have towards a certain subject. They want to learn about investing in the stock market because they have an interest in finance and making money. Extrinsic motivation comes from external factors. Students are learning and study certain material only because they want to get good grades, or there may be a pay increase once they are further educated.
Each individual is different. Learning in different ways, being motivated in different ways. The majority of the students in our apprenticeship program, that come to their six weeks of schooling once a year, are more likely to be extrinsically motivated. Most of them would much rather be in the field, or at their shop making the real money. Each year, of the four-year program has a substantial raise, but not until you are done your six weeks of schooling for that year. So this gives the students a pretty big external motivator to come receive their training. That is the motivator to get them to school, once they are in school they must receive a 70% grade average in the course in order to pass and get their raise. So this gives them another big external motivator once they have arrived and started their schooling.
